YINGXI LIU

“What sets Yingxi apart is not simply the beauty of her voice, but the distinctive way she communicates through it. Her singing combines technical refinement with emotional authenticity, allowing each phrase to feel both intentional and deeply personal. Rather than drawing attention solely to vocal power or virtuosity, she invites listeners into the story of the music, creating performances marked by elegance, sincerity, and a rare sense of connection.”

Dr. Yingxi Liu is a Chinese lyric coloratura soprano, voice pedagogue, and researcher whose work bridges performance, teaching, and voice science. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, with a cognate in Live Entertainment Management.

Originally from Jinan, China, Dr. Liu began her musical journey in Chinese folk singing before transitioning to Western classical vocal performance. This unique artistic background continues to shape her musical identity and fuels her passion for introducing Chinese vocal repertoire to international audiences.

An active performer, Dr. Liu has appeared with the Miami Music Festival, Opéra des Landes (France), the Collaborative Piano Institute Vocal Academy, and Frost Opera Theater. She enjoys performing opera, art song, and concert repertoire, with a particular affinity for lyric coloratura roles.

As an educator, Dr. Liu has taught collegiate voice courses and private lessons, emphasizing healthy vocal technique, artistic expression, and evidence-informed pedagogy. Her research focuses on female vocal function and the physiological factors that influence the singing voice.

Her doctoral dissertation, The Reported Vocal Changes of Young Female Classical Singers During the Menstrual Cycle, has been presented at university research symposia, and she has been selected to present her work at the Pan-American Vocology Association (PAVA) Symposium.

Dr. Liu also presented her doctoral lecture recital, Echoes of Time: The Journey of Chinese Art Song, which explored the historical development of Chinese art song from the early twentieth century to the present while highlighting the cultural dialogue between Chinese poetry and Western compositional techniques.

Whether on stage, in the studio, or in the classroom, Dr. Liu is committed to empowering singers through performance, research, and education while advancing the understanding of the singing voice and promoting Chinese vocal repertoire worldwide.
